Full Description:
The Springfield Police Department provides law enforcement
services to a population of approximately 9,100 residents
covering 47 square miles.
Each year the Department responds to roughly 5,000 calls for service and
answers on average 1,300 911 calls
from Springfield, North Springfield, and parts of Baltimore,
as the Department is also a 911 Primary Answering Point
within the state of Vermont.
Police Officers and Dispatchers have mandatory training
that they must attend each year.
Full-time officers must attend
25 hours of training, and part-time officers must attend 30
hours of training yearly. All Officers must also complete
mandatory training in
firearms, Hazardous Materials Awareness, First Aid, and
Blood Bourne Pathogens.
Full and Part-time Dispatchers must attend 16 hours
of continuous education training and CPR recertification
each year to be 9-1-1 certified call takers.
Other courses of instruction taken by Officers and Dispatchers
include: Sexual Assault and Abuse Fundamentals,
Weapons of Mass Destruction, Firearms Instructors Course,
Risk Management, Criminal Interdiction, First Line Supervisor
Courses, Field Training Officer, Laser Training, School
Violence, Crisis Intervention, Suicide Intervention and
Domestic Abuse as it pertains specifically to
Vermont and Vermont State Laws.
